Karl Lagerfeld was never known in the fashion industry for his delicate manners or consideration of other people’s feelings, which could be why he lasted so long as to make history, some believe. Still, his attacks on model Heidi Klum, dating back to February this year, are as uncalled for as they are misinformed, now that the designer has also dragged her husband in, as Gawker says he did.

The report comes from the British publication The Sun, via Gawker, and has Lagerfeld taking another public shot at the renowned model, again, without any kind of provocation whatsoever, just like he also did the other time. However, this time, he chooses not to directly attack Klum, but rather to take a cheap shot at her husband – at his skin and the scars that are visible on his face, to be more precise, as per the aforementioned two publications.

“I am no dermatologist but I wouldn’t want his skin. Mine looks better than his. He is covered in craters.” Lagerfeld reportedly said in a recent interview on an unspecified occasion. While such a blow would be justifiable if we were talking of a teen or even an adult with acne (and even this is highly debatable), several celebrity-oriented publications point out, the fact that Seal has the scars because of a condition he once suffered makes Lagerfeld’s remarks very wrong.

Seal has been diagnosed with a condition called discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) that mostly affects the young and has the immune cells attack various body tissues. In Seal’s case, those were represented by his face and his head, with the singer also suffering from hair loss. Reports have it that Seal’s condition has been in remission for years, but since he often publicly spoke about it, it was only to be expected that it be common knowledge. Obviously, Karl Lagerfeld was the only one who did not know this aspect of the couple’s life – assuming the above report is accurate and the designer really made those comments.

As fans must know, at the beginning of the year, Klum was targeted by a group of designers led by Lagerfeld and Wolfgang Joop, all of whom seemed to agree that she had little to no business in the fashion world since she was not a runaway supermodel, but rather a commercial model. They also referred to her as “fat” because her dimensions were far from the industry’s standard. A very diplomatic Heidi Klum later responded to the attacks saying that everyone was entitled to their own opinion, and she was not about to change just because a bunch of people did not like her.

Neither Heidi nor Seal has yet addressed the reports of Lagerfeld’s rude and misinformed comments.
