Karl Lagerfeld has a reputation for virtually hating curvy or fat people, even though he was one himself, but he insists he feels completely different where singer Adele is concerned.

The other day, speaking to Metro, the fashion designer and photographer commented on Adele as a singer, noting that, while she had a great face, she was “a little too fat.”

Understandably, Adele's fans, the same fans who know she was never the one to ask the media to focus on anything else than her music, were upset.

In a new statement to Metro, Karl is backtracking, saying that his initial comment was completely taken out of context.

He is a fan of Adele's music, so he would never say this kind of hurtful things on record, he offers by means of an explanation.

“I’d like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out of the article it changes the meaning of the thought,” he says.

“What I said was in relation to Lana Del Rey and the sentence has since been taken out of context from how it was originally published. I actually prefer Adele, she is my favorite singer and I am a great admirer of her,” Karl goes on to explain.

He would never publicly bash Adele since he too is no stranger to how it feels to be bullied for your weight, he adds as a final argument.

“I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can’t wait for her next CD,” adds the fashion icon.

As we have also informed you earlier today, in a new interview with People, Adele tackles precisely the topic of her weight and how it gets media attention when it shouldn't.

Though chances are that the interview was conducted before Lagerfeld's comment, it does stress, once more, that Adele only wants to be regarded as a singer, as an artist: it was never her intention to be like the catwalk models, so why even bother picking on her weight.
