Indian handset makers Karbonn and Infibeam have just announced the immediate availability of the budget-friendly A5+ Android smartphone.

Customers can purchase the Karbonn A5+ for only Rs 4,900 outright, which is about $80/€65. Check it out here. Keep in mind that Infibeam also offers free shipping in India.

The retailer also states the smartphone will be delivered for all urban areas serviceable by major courier agencies. For remote and/or rural areas, Karbonn A5+ will be sent by local couriers / Indian Speed Post and may take a little more time.

Although Karbonn Mobiles confirmed the entry-level Karbonn A5+ is aimed at Asian markets, it’s less likely to be launched outside India, though anything is possible.

As expected, the smartphone offers dual-SIM capability (GSM/GSM). The bad news is Karbonn A5+ is powered by Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system out of the box.

There’s no word yet on any further software upgrades, but we don’t think this entry-level smartphone will receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update anytime soon.

According to manufacturer, Karbonn A5+ is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core processor. Unfortunately, no info on the amount of memory is provided, though it’s been confirmed the smartphone packs microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB.

Karbonn A5+ sports a decent 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 262k colors.

On the back, the affordable smartphone features a 3.5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording. The A5+ lacks a secondary front-facing camera for video calls.

When it comes to connectivity, the A5+ supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and HSDPA up to 7.3 mbps, enabling users to access Internet while on the move.

Last but not least, the Karbonn A5+ is powered by a standard 1,420 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
