You can call him Dr. Kanye West from now on. Rapper, designer and arts crusader Kanye West has been presented with an honorary doctorate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago the other day, and he was there in person to accept the distinction.

You can see his acceptance speech in the video below. For once, Kanye didn’t rant and he didn’t stray off topic, he didn’t foam at the mouth and didn’t proclaim himself the biggest victim in the art world. If anything, he kept it short and sweet, showed some humility but also his trademark self-confidence.

He promised attendees that he was about to make all their lives better, presumably by his continued efforts in crossing barriers when making his art, and he even joked about his biggest prerogative as a pop star: speaking his mind and apologizing for it, just so he can make his opinion known once more.

He also made sure to let everyone know just how humbled he was to receive the distinction.

“I felt my nerves a bit, and I don’t feel that feeling a lot,” he said. “The nerves of humility and modesty when being honored. A humanization, a reality of being recognized. And all I thought as I sit here, kind of shaking a little bit, is, I need to get rid of that feeling. I need to not be nervous.”

By the end of the speech, he got that last part down.

As was to be expected, wife Kim Kardashian, who was in Brazil on business, didn’t miss the chance to congratulate her man publicly and boast about his accomplishment to her millions of followers on social media.
