A while back, word got out that socialite / television personality Kim Kardashian was considering going down the road of her former BFF Paris Hilton, by releasing some music. Kim now explains it was Kanye West who talked her into it.

Kim and Kanye are apparently very good friends, and he even put in an appearance on her reality show. At one point, he was even rumored to be the father of her unborn baby, a rumor that never checked out.

In recent months, Kanye kept even closer to Kim than ever before, agreeing to shoot with her the video for her first music single – but only after he convinced her to give pop a try, Kim says in an interview for MTV News.

If it weren’t for Kanye, Kim would have probably not even considered music, probably realizing what she stood to lose if her endeavors failed to get the fans’ approval.

“OK, I’m not a singer, this isn’t what I do. I have too much other stuff going on. Is this really something safe for me to do?” Kim says of what she first thought about trying out to see if being a recording artist panned out for her.

“Kanye was actually one of the people who really talked me into doing it and telling me, like, ‘Hey, look, what do you guys do for fun? You guys go shopping, you go to the movies. Kind of step into our world for a second and have fun, and we go to the studio’,” the socialite adds in the same interview.

And her first foray into music is all about having fun, she says. Despite earlier reports, she’ll not be coming out with a full music album: it’s just this single, the one she premiered at a New Year’s Eve party.

The track is called “Turn It Up” and, besides having Kanye’s “blessing,” it also has The-Dream as writer and producer.

“I’m just doing it for fun, and The-Dream wrote and produced the song, and Ciara talked me into doing it and said I should meet with him… It’s just one song, and it’s just for fun,” Kim says.

So far, no release date for Kim Kardashian’s “Turn It Up” has been announced.
