An updated Kanotix Hellfire 2011-05 has now been released. The latest release adds updated packages and bug fixes. Kanotix 2011-05 now enables the proprietary Nvidia or ATI drivers by default, from the live environment and then allows users to maintain this after they install the distro as well.

"Kanotix Hellfire 2011-05 based on Debian 6.0 (Squeeze). It contains the latest Debian stable branch with all the latest security updates. In addition Kanotix Hellfire provides useful extras and updated packages," Kanotix announced.

"A brand new feature are our GFX overlays. That enables you to use Nvidia or ATI 3D graphics driver from the beginning in live mode. If you install Kanotix with enabled GFX overlays there are included in the hd installation too. You don't need to reinstall them," it explained.

About Kanotix

Kanotix is a Debian-based Linux distro designed to be used as a live environment, straight from the DVD, but can be converted to a stand-alone hard drive install.

In essence it's based on the latest available stable version of Debian, but comes with plenty of customizations.

It sports the latest Linux kernel, pulled from Ubuntu development builds. The developers then add their own patches which provide broader hardware support and other fixes.

Kanotix defaults to the KDE SC desktop environment with custom art and is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
