Coming in 2010

Square Enix, as the publisher, and IO Interactive, as the developer, have announced that they are planning to release Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, and the PlayStation 3 from Sony at some point in 2010. The game will be a sequel to Dead Men, a game which was not too warmly received by the videogaming community.

Niels Jørgensen, who is the general manager of IO Interactive, has said “Gamers are always looking for something new and that is exactly what they are going to get with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. A special thanks to gamers worldwide for their feedback. They are certainly in for a shock as we, with immense pride, welcome back our two dear, violent and somewhat unfortunate friends”.

IO Interactive is saying that Dog Days will offer a rawer and more brutal experience than the first game and showed off two trailers which set the tone, with both Kane and Lynch tougher and apparently more crazy bent than ever. The main action will be taking place in Shanghai and the development team is saying that both “realism” and “intensity” are its goals with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.

IO Interactive is probably best known for creating the highly praised Hitman series, which cast the player as a silent killer with a shaved head. They have also created Freedom Fighters and, most recently, Mini Ninjas. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is set to be published by Square Enix under the Eidos brand, which will apparently be used for Western-oriented releases.

Considering the Dog Days in the title, players might actually look forward to playing something similar to the bank heist from the classic movie Dog Day Afternoon. If IO and Square Enix manage to offer an experience similar to that depicted in the movie, then Dog Days might actually be worth trying out.
