While he’s on a breather from making music, Justin Timberlake is following a dream that has been close to his heart since forever: that of becoming an actor. Now, Justin is eyeing a bigger dream, that of landing his first Oscar nomination.

Fans must know that Timberlake’s acting career got off to a pretty rocky start, with critics being mostly divided about why he’d want to quit music when he was so excellent at it, as opposed to doing movies.

However, all that has changed with this year’s critical success and box-office hit “The Social Network,” where Timberlake plays Sean Parker, the founder of Napster.

The film and Justin’s performance have been so well received that the singer slash actor is confident this can be his best chance so far at landing an Oscar nomination – which is why he’s out to campaign for it, PageSix has learned.

Apparently, Timberlake is already in the running (in the sense of being considered) for Best Supporting Actor but he’s determined to do his best to get his name out there, spies say for the aforementioned e-zine.

Since he has no less than 3 new movies coming out in 2012, Timberlake has plenty of motivation to work himself to the bone to get that nomination because it would guarantee his movies would turn out successful

“He’s hell-bent on getting a nomination this year even though he has tough competition from his co-star Andrew Garfield,” a friend of Justin’s says for PageSix.

“Sony is footing the bill for advertising the awards campaign, but Justin is also doing things his own way, including attending Academy screenings on his own and privately reaching out to award winners and Academy darlings Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey for campaigning advice,” dishes the same insider.

Even if he does get the nomination, winning for Best Supporting Actor category may still be a dream far from completion, since the competition would be incredibly stiff.

“Timberlake faces competition not only from Garfield but from Geoffrey Rush, who plays a speech therapist in ‘The King’s Speech,’ and Christian Bale, who stars as the trainer to boxer Micky Ward (played by Mark Wahlberg) in ‘The Fighter,’ which opens Dec. 17,” PageSix notes.
