The way this year started for Justin Bieber, with an arrest in Miami for DUI, with an egging of a neighbor's home, with a failed attempt to rekindle his romance with Selena Gomez and with lots of parties in between, no one saw this odd turn to Christianity after his racist scandal, but Justin is currently on a “Jesus take the wheel” path.

TMZ reports that the singer turned to God in an attempt to wash away his sins by getting baptized. The only problem is h had to do it in a bathtub in a bathroom, because he wanted it to be private. The news that Justin went seeking to repent for his sins and wash them all away comes from Carl Lentz, who works with Bieber in New York City.

The good pastor said that Bieber spent the better part of last week reading from the Bible, which would explain why he was posting verses in Instagram, begging for forgiveness. The singer was also attending services in church in an effort to further purify his soul.

In the meantime, his legal team was busy making sure that the racist video he was being blackmailed over didn't reach the press. But since the new owner shook him down for a reported one million dollars, they figured it was better to let them leak, which eventually happened and now Justin has a lot of repenting to do – about one million dollars' worth.

So why did Bieber choose to get baptized in a bathroom tub and not in church? Well, he did try the church thing at first, but because of his famed status, the paps kept showing up and this means that he couldn't get the privacy he so badly wanted unless he did it in a confined space where he could control who got access.

Since no church could afford him that privacy, Justin chose a very intimate bathtub and took a dip for Jesus, as part of his recent effort to reconnect with Christianity. Meanwhile, people close to him involved in showbiz are defending him left and right, saying that he's not a racist.

This despite of two separate videos of a much younger Bieber, singing and making extremely offensive racist jokes having emerged online. There's only so much apologizing one person can make before people start believing that those apologies are insincere, since he keeps on doing the same thing over and over again.

That's why Justin is now playing the Jesus card. He's being aided by mentor Usher who thinks that the Canadian singer is “unequivocally not a racist,” and his voice is made stronger by some other leading figures in the African-American community, like rapper 50 Cent.

“As I have watched Justin Bieber navigate difficult waters as a young man, I can tell you that he hasn’t always chosen the path of his greatest potential. But he is unequivocally not a racist,” said Usher on social media.

He also added that “What he was five years ago was a naive child who did not understand the negative power and degradation that comes from playing with racial slurs.”
