Not long ago, the rumor that Sony might cheapen, during the holidays, the Play Station 2 consoles, seemed to point out to a strategy with which Sony wanted to deal with Xbox 360's launching.

Several sources from the retailing industry have confirmed that Sony will make a $100 cut.

But it turned out to be just a rumor because Ray Maguire, president of Sony Computer Entertainment UK, said today in an interview for BBC that Sony has no intentions of cutting the prices, and this will not change by the end of the year.

A cheaper Play Station 2 might have given Microsoft a rough time, but Sony preferred to add some new titles to the Greatest Hits collection, leaving the price intact.

Since Xbox 360's price has already been officially announced, Sony will have to come up for Play Station 3 with something in the same price range, although so far, it seems that the price will be even higher than Xbox 360's. Perhaps the holidays will shed some light on PS3's price.
