Yoichi Wada clarifies statement

Final Fantasy XIII is now out all over the world and some important resources at publisher Square Enix must be moving to the development of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the next segment of Fabula Nova Crystallis that will be accessible to gamers. And it seems that with the series for the first time arriving on the Xbox 360 home console from Microsoft, in addition to the PlayStation 3 from Sony, Versus might also be a multiplatform title.

The speculation comes courtesy of Yoichi Wada, the chief executive officer of Square Enix, who talked to investors during a recent Question and Answer session and said, “[w]e'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement,” when asked about the platform choice for Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Wada then posted on his Twitter feed, with a post that reads, “[i]t looks like the 'net is heating up. Versus on Xbox? What I said at the earnings press conference was just that until a formal announcement is made at the announcement time, all points about all titles are not finalized.” It sounds as if the company he heads is still thinking about launching on both platforms with a decision and an announcement coming later, probably this year at the Tokyo Games Show.

We know little at the moment about Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but it seems that the story will be pretty close to what gamers have come to expect from the Japanese role playing game, with the last heir of a ruling family that has power over mysterious crystals taking a stand against invaders who are interested in gaining control over them for nefarious purposes. The game world will be darker and bleaker and the combat system will have some third person shooter elements. At the moment, Square Enix is not talking the launch window for Final Fantasy Versus XII.
