Most US citizens know that it’s not wise to ignore jury duty summons. Cybercriminals and fraudsters rely on this to trick people into handing over their personal details.

Jury duty scams have been around since at least 2005, but according to WMIcentral.com, such schemes are still going strong.

The scammers, pretending to be jury duty coordinators, call up their potential victims and ask them questions about jury summons.

In order to allegedly verify the information, victims are asked to provide personal information such as social security numbers and dates of birth. The collected information can be used by the crooks for various purposes, including identity theft and tax fraud.

Hoax Slayer has made a great advisory to teach users how to spot and avoid jury scams. Check it out here.
