Jun Takeuchi, the producer of Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, is not involved in the creation of Resident Evil 6. In a recent interview, he said that he would not take part in the development of the next title in the Resident Evil series and claimed there were other important projects at Capcom he would be supervising.

Asked by 4Gamer, as translated by Andriasang, what these new projects might be, Takeuchi replied, “If I say it like that, it might be taken as 'next game,' but before reaching the step of making a game, we - Japanese developers - have a lot of things that we must do. To begin, I have a number of things I'd like to do related to Capcom as a whole. This year's Capcom is very interesting. The titles we'll announce in the future will surprise many people. We'll be announcing this year the things that Inafune and I have been working on over the past year.”

One of the projects Takeuchi and Inafune may be working on is Mega Man Online, a side scrolling action massively multiplayer online role playing game set, as its title suggests, in the popular Mega Man universe. It will retain the platforming and action components that are a hallmark of the series, but also add the character progression element now common to online gaming.

Resident Evil 5 was Jun Takeuchi's take on the Resident Evil series and seen as somewhat controversial. Resident Evil 4, a kind of a reboot for the series, was a great success on all the platforms it was released on. The fifth installment, however, was seen as relying too much on traditional gameplay elements of the series that felt outdated in the context of today's medium. Nonetheless, the titles had a stellar cooperative multiplayer component that received wide critical acclaim. Nothing is known yet about Resident Evil 6, other that it is bound to happen, given the sales of the fifth iteration in the franchise.
