Now that, more or less officially, Joss Whedon, creator of the “Buffy” televised series, has been pushed out of the long feature remake, he’s looking for something new. That new endeavor seems do be, from what E! Online is saying, a documentary on Comic-Con fanatics, the kind that still attend conventions in full dress-up mode and would be willing to have a few months of their life documented on film for an upcoming release.

Nothing has been announced officially just yet, but reports in the media, backed by an unnamed but admittedly very reliable source, have it that Whedon is already on the lookout for a small bunch of convention-going fans whose life he can shoot on film. The idea behind the project is to present what goes on not only during these conventions but also in the months leading up to them and after they’re done, the tipster reveals.

Even better, you could be a part of the upcoming documentary. “Are you the type of Star Wars fan who, even though you’re in your 30s, likes to dress up like an Imperial Stormtrooper? Or think Lara Croft is more real than not? Or is your idea of romance taking your special someone to see Avatar – for the 12th time? If you answered yes to any of the above and have been to geekapalooza Comic-Con, then Joss Whedon may want to talk to you… I just got word that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator is developing a documentary feature about Comic-Con that will be centered on a still-to-be-cast group of convention-going superfans,” E! writes in a recent post.

“Whedon is teaming up with award-winning Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock, according to a source. ‘They want to follow people for about three months leading up to this year’s Comic-Con,’ the source said. ‘And then they want to film them there. They’re looking at all types of people.’ Whedon and Spurlock did not immediately comment for this story,” the report further explains.

Comic-Con is still a long way to go so more details on this should emerge by the time it kicks off. On a side note, one might also point out the reports that say this convention geek-focused project (documentary-style) sounds far more promising than Whedon’s own take on the “Terminator” franchise, which he offered to buy for $10,000, in what has been described as the most hilarious open letter ever to be penned by a director.
