Chris Nolan said his goodbyes to the Batman franchise earlier this year, when his third and final film, “The Dark Knight Rises,” came out in theaters. Jonathan Nolan is finally talking about the much debated ending of the film.

IGN caught up with Jonathan, who wrote the script with Chris, at Comic-Con in New York and did not miss the opportunity to ask him about the open ending of the film.

Fans must know that (*spoilers, be warned!*) the film ends with John Blake apparently taking over from Batman, while he and Catwoman are chilling abroad, where Alfred too happens to be on vacation.

Nolan refuses to pin an exact meaning to all this, saying only that, as a writer, it’s a pleasure to have people talking about your work even after it’s out.

At the same time, he underlines, he wants fans to decide for themselves what they take from the franchise. In other words, the ending is what you want it to be.
