Funny guy Jonah Hill has been laying low for some time – and we now know why. The actor, now preparing for a brand new role, is a shadow of his former self, having lost a lot of weight thanks to regular exercise and a strict diet.

At the ESPY Awards, Hill was probably the most talked about celebrity on the red carpet, despite the fact that some of the most gorgeous women in the world were also in attendance and had walked the red carpet in beautiful evening gowns.

Not that it’s that surprising, as She Knows also notes: Jonah has lost so much weight that it’s even nearly impossible to believe that he’s the same person as the chubby fellow he was a couple of years ago.

“Actor Jonah Hill is famous for playing the pudgy, funny guy in movies like Superbad and Get Him to the Greek – but the actor has been on a mission to lose weight for his new role in 21 Jump Street and showed off his super slim physique at the ESPY Awards last night,” the e-zine says.

Not only was Hill slimmer, he was also fancier in dress, rocking a black suit with a striped shirt, and what looked like a fake tan. Quite a difference from his unshaven, t-shirt and jeans-wearing appearances on the red carpet from the past.

Asked by reporters what prompted him to even think about losing the extra weight, Jonah said he’d come to a point where he realized just how unhealthy he was.

He hired a nutritionist and a personal trainer because he “thought it was important to be healthier,” and he set off to the difficult task of losing the extra pounds.

“It’s not fun. I wouldn’t say it’s the most fun endeavor I’ve ever took on in my life – but it’s important. And I’m enjoying it. If I eat something unhealthy now, I kind of feel a little weird and my body hurts,” the star said.

As noted above, the weight loss was also prompted by Hill’s casting in “21 Jump Street,” opposite Channing Tatum, who has always been in enviable physical condition.

As it happens, the film is also a bit more action-driven than other comedies.

“It’s a comedy with really cool action. We’re not doing something serious like Miami Vice. It’s a funny movie with a lot of great action and a real story,” Hill explained on the same occasion.
