Action comedy will be out next year, looks quite promising

A short while ago, there was a lot of hubbub in the blogosphere over Johnny Depp’s decision to dye his hair blonde, with the frenzy dying down a bit when word got out that he was shooting for a new movie. That movie is “Mortdecai” and we now have the first trailer for it.

A Lionsgate production, “Mortdecai” seems to be an action comedy in which Depp plays lead. He is an art dealer who “searches for a stolen painting that’s reportedly linked to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold,” as per the official synopsis, but he’s also quite the ladies’ man.

He’s not too bright, but he’s a dashing fellow.

“Mortdecai” is directed by David Koepp, best known for his screenwriter credits on blockbusters like “Mission: Impossible,” “Spider-Man,” and “War of the Worlds.”

What makes this movie stand out, apart from its vintage, glamorous overall feel, is the impressive cast. Aside from the blonde Depp (who will hopefully manage to silence the critics and fans who have been saying for years he’s delivering only one-note performances), it also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Jeff Goldblum, Oliver Platt, Michael Byrne, and Olivia Munn.

This first trailer offers a good sample of Depp and Paltrow’s fake British accents. If you like what you see and hear, keep an eye for the film in theaters in February 2015.
