“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Johnny Depp says of not wanting to marry Vanessa Paradis
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Johnny Depp says of not wanting to marry Vanessa Paradis

Every time Johnny Depp has a new movie coming out, reporters use every interviewing opportunity to ask him if he has any plans to marry the mother of his children, model Vanessa Paradis. No reason why the promo tour for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” should be different.

While in Cannes to do promo work for the latest installment in the “Pirates” franchise, Johnny took questions on topics as varied as his acting career, his most recent film and the reason why he wouldn’t marry Vanessa.

As he said before, he sees no point in marrying the love of his life as long as he knows she’s the one for him – and he’s convinced she feels the same way about him too.

Asked by OK! Magazine (story via here) about his greatest “achievement” to date, Depp doesn’t even consider including here something from his long and beautiful career: his greatest achievement is meeting Vanessa, he says.

“If you call meeting Vanessa an ‘achievement,’ it was certainly that. It came at the right time. We were both ready for children, and she’s given me Lily Rose, who is now 11 years old, and Jack, who’s 9,” the actor explains.

The moment he laid eyes on her, he knew there could be no other. It was love at first sight, if you will.

“I saw Vanessa across a room – and I first saw only her back! But I immediately thought: ‘That’s the woman for me.’ That was nearly 12 years ago,” Depp adds.

So many years later, Johnny and Vanessa still feel the same about each other, so they really don’t see the point of making it “official”: their relationship is as official as it gets as far as they’re concerned.

“That’s how it’s going to stay – for now. As one of Presidents once said, ‘It if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ We just haven’t done the big public vow thing. It doesn’t seem necessary for us. Others may want to go down that road – we don’t,” the actor says.
