With the latest issue of Vanity Fair came a new controversy, as actor Johnny Depp, who was also the cover boy for it, compared being at a photoshoot to being physically assaulted. In a statement released hours ago, Depp is apologizing profusely.

Almost the same instant that the mag came out, various groups were already blasting Depp publicly for speaking without knowing what he was talking about.

More importantly, they said, he was comparing something he was getting paid for (sitting for photoshoots) to a violent crime that you have not say in.

Depp has realized he was wrong in exaggerating for the sake of making a point – and he’s saying so in a statement to Fox News.

“I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way. I never meant to. It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling,” the actor says.

“I understand there is no comparison and I am very regretful. In an effort to correct my lack of judgment, please accept my heartfelt apology,” he adds.

RAINN, one of the groups to demand an apology from the actor after his comments made it in print, has also issued a statement, saying they were happy with the direction things had taken – and that they hoped to work with him sometime in the future.

“We hope to work with him to provide hope to victims of rape and make sure they get the help they deserve,” RAINN said in the statement.

Back to the Vanity Fair interview, Depp also said that he was only doing movies these days for his children.

Perhaps this came as a response to criticism that he’d “sold out” by accepting to do Disney’s juggernaut “Pirates of the Caribbean,” which has made him one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood right now, word has it.
