Hendersonville, Tennessee - The former longtime residence of legendary music star Johnny Cash burned down to a pile of ashes and charred logs just few hours ago, reports Yahoo News quoting Associated Press.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown yet, but firefighters say that everything came down in ashes very fast much due to the highly-flammable wood preservative substances applied both on the outer and inner walls.

Hendersonville Fire Chief Jamie Steele declared that even if it took about 5 minutes for his squad to reach the former Cash residence, the house was already beyond the point where something could still have been done. One firefighter was injured and no other damage was reported.

Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash have lived in this house since the 60's and it is here where many of Johnny's hit songs have been written. After the Cashes died in 2003, the house was bought by former Bee Gees member Barry Gibbs who intended to restore it as much as possible and move in, much to try and follow Johnny's creative period in it.

The Cash residence in Hendersonville, Tennessee was a place through which a lot of American personalities passed from Billy Graham to Bob Dylan, as remembered by neighbor and singer Marty Stuart, formerly married to Cash's daughter, Cindy back in the 80's. Cash bought the house from Nashville builder Braxton Dixon and moved in during the 60's, never to depart from it again.

Neighbored by many other artists and known personalities among whom we might name Rich Sterban, from Oak Ridge Boys, the Cash residence was close to the shores of Old Hickory Lake, some 20 miles northeast of Nashville.

So, today, the house where Johnny Cash and his wife June have lived all the time they were married, until they both passed away, came down in fire. Funny thing that this last "Johnny Cash sanctuary" was devoured by fire, seemingly the same fire from Johnny's all time favorite hit "Ring Of Fire".
