14 DAY TRIAL // At the beginning of the month, Netflix announced plans to reboot a cult comedy classic, “Full House,” 20 years after it had ended its 8-season run on ABC. The new show would be called “Fuller House” and would attempt to bring back most members of the principal cast.
However, the focus would be on D.J. Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler, played by Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber, now all grown up. John Stamos is credited as producer and will also make several cameo appearances.
Before the announcement from Netflix, Stamos appeared on US TV and broke the news. Shortly after, WWD caught up with the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, who also appeared on the show, and asked them if they would be back, to which they replied that they didn’t even know the reboot was in the works.
“We just found out about it today. I guess we’re going to talk to the creators and see what’s happening,” Mary-Kate said. “I’m shocked I haven’t heard from John [Stamos].” Ashley added that she would contact former co-star Bob Saget to talk about this and “get his perspective.”
Either way, it sounded like they had been deliberately left out and partially as if they were hurt by it because they would have come back if they’d been asked.
Naturally, headlines like “Stamos forgot to tell the Olsens about the ‘Full House’ reboot” popped up online, but he’s not the kind of guy to just take this on the chin. “I call bull[expletive],” reads his newest tweet on the topic.
So it could be that the Olsens knew and had been asked to be back for the reboot, but they had said no; they could have claimed to be in ignorance on the topic because they hadn’t prepared the right answer yet.
Rumor has it that, even so, they’re in talks with Netflix and the producers, including Stamos, for the possibility to appear on the rebooted show.
