Most gamers have heard at least once in their lifetimes of John Romero, one of the people behind the most successful game of all times, the first full fledged shooter, none other than the famous Doom.

But it looks like the golden days in which idSoftware dominated the games' market and Romero was a real star amongst gamers are now gone. His latest creations, as for example Daikatana, haven't had he success everyone expected, and most fans are now considering Romero the perfect example of a talented man who got caught in the whirlpool of glory and has now hit rock bottom.

And it seems that this is not far from the truth, since Romero left (or has been fired, rumor has it) the publisher Midway, thus abandoning his position of Creative Director as well as his latest project, Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows.

Romero himself informed his fans of this departure, declaring in a statement posted on his site that he has left Midway three weeks ago, and has spent a sort of second honeymoon with his Romanian wife, Raluca.

As for the future, Romero said that he's currently looking at lots of exciting developments and that it'll be a couple months before he can announce his next destination, but it remains to be seen who's now ready to adopt this former star of the gaming world.
