John McAfee, the founder of the world renowned antivirus company, has been arrested by the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) in Belize, being accused of illegal possession of a firearm.

According to Channel 5 Belize, McAfee believes that the incident had something to do with the fact that he refused to donate money to a politician.

“On Monday at six o’clock, I was awakened by the sound of a bullhorn, a megaphone. I went outside and saw about thirty GSU in full uniform, full dressed, automatic weapons, storming through the property and drive way. I went back inside, got some clothes on, I came out. I was told to put up my hands up against the wall as was eleven other people on the compound,” McAfee said.

GSU representatives presented him with a warrant to search the building, soon after which the agents started breaking down doors in search for the alleged illegal weapons. During this time, while he was handcuffed, the individuals confiscated his passport, and even killed his dog.

McAfee claimed that it was a major abuse, everything being played out so that he would be found doing something illegal.

“At the very beginning of the day, one of the GSU soldiers, one of the GSU officers, took all of my firearm licenses and put them in his vest. When he took them out to check the firearms, this one was missing. They charged me for having a firearm without a license; took me to Belize City,” he explained.

Even after he presented copies of the licenses the nightmare wasn’t over. He was released only after the American embassy intervened.

The founder of the antivirus firm, who is now 66, is known to be a philanthropist, but he never donates money to political parties. This decision made one political figure very upset. The man even started accusing McAfee of being involved in illegal activities on the local radio station.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. That politician by the way did not get reelected,” McAfee concluded.
