Singer does magazine to talk personal life and media attention

Singer John Mayer has always had that certain something with the public: on one hand, he’s a very talented musician who never disappoints, while on the other he can be the most annoying celebrity in Hollywood. This is precisely the duality the latest issue of Rolling Stone wants to explore in a piece called “John Mayer, Dirty Mind, Lonely Heart.”

Mayer has dated, so far, some of the most beautiful and mediated women in showbiz, for which reason he enjoys quite a Don Juan-esque reputation. However, the woman whom he probably liked best and with whom he’d still be together if it were entirely up to him would probably be former “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston. She is a wonderful and very special woman, the singer tells RS, but things were simply not panning out for them as a couple as they had expected. This is why they broke up, he adds, regardless what speculation says in the media.

“I’ve never really gotten over it [the split from Aniston]. It was one of the worst times of my life… I have this weird feeling, a pride thing, for the people I’ve had relationships with. What would I be saying to Jen, who I think is [expletive]ing fantastic, if I said to her, ‘I don’t dislike you. In fact, I like you extremely well. But I have to back out of this because it doesn’t arc over the horizon. This is not where I see myself for the rest of my life, this is not my ideal destiny’,” Mayer explains.

Also on a more personal note, Mayer goes on to add that the idea of finding a girlfriend who could possibly turn out to be more and with whom he could see himself settled down is downright terrifying at this point. Right now, he simply goes from ex girlfriend to ex girlfriend, this being the safest way of going out with women without too many strings attached. However, he wouldn’t say no to settling down with someone, if he ever chanced to come across her.

Shortly after the Rolling Stone issue came out on newsstands, Mayer took to his Twitter to say he wouldn’t date himself if he were a woman, based on the interview he gave. “Just read my Rolling Stone cover article. I’m still not sure if I would want to hang out with me. After 30 minutes of twirling my hair into a knot, I say ‘[expletive] it.’ You can’t go wrong if you tell the truth,” he wrote.
