Country darling Taylor Swift has made no secret about where she gets inspiration for her songs: her personal life, which means she often writes song about her exes. The same seems to go for John Mayer.

Though they never officially admitted to being an item, back in 2009, while the two working on the duet “Half of My Heart,” off Mayer’s latest album, rumors began to fly that they were romantically involved.

Judging by the song called “Dear John,” included on the “Speak Now” album, it seems that, whatever the two shared did not end as Taylor would have wanted.

In other words, it could be that serial dater John saw it just as a fling, while Taylor thought there was more to it than just that, PopEater says.

“She’s reportedly taking aim at John Mayer, which confirms rumors that the two were romantically involved in 2009 while collaborating on ‘Half of My Heart,’ a track from his last album,” PopEater says.

“Dear John/ I see it all now that you’re gone/ Don’t you think I was too young/ To be messed with/ The girl in the dress/ Cried the whole way home/ I should’ve known,” Taylor sings on “Dear John.”

“It was wrong/ Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/ To be played/ By your dark, twisted games/ When I loved you so,” Swift goes on to say.

Clearly, the coincidence would be too big to be just that – a coincidence. Taylor, however, is not addressing the matter in any way, saying that, while her songs are very personal, she’s not the type to kiss and tell.

“A lot of times when people’s relationships end, they write an e-mail to that person and say everything that they wish they would have said. A lot of times they don’t push send,” Taylor tells People magazine, when asked whether the John in “Dear John” is Mayer.

“This was a tough one to write,” Taylor admits, “and I guess putting it on the album was pushing send.”

“Speak Now,” Taylor’s third album, is out in music stores on October 25.
