John Lee Miller joins Julia Stiles for multi-episode arc on season 5 of “Dexter”

After the shocking finale of season 4, Showtime’s killer series “Dexter” is about to up the ante on all fronts. Not only will it have to come up with a story line to top Rita’s shocking and extremely gruesome death, but it’s also looking to rev things up a bit in terms of characters involved as well. Jonny Lee Miller has just been attached to the cast for a multi-episode deal, Variety informs.

The “Eli Stone” star is about to make his return to television with a part on “Dexter,” says the publication – though what exactly it may consist of has not been mentioned yet. However, since the biggest part of the appeal of the show is played by the element of surprise (which is also exactly what made the season 4 finale such a jaw-dropping one, as we also informed you a while back), chances of the audiences finding out the specifics of Miller’s new role are slim to none, one may as well note.

“Jonny Lee Miller, best known for playing the lead in the ABC drama ‘Eli Stone,’ has landed a multiepisode arc on Showtime’s ‘Dexter.’ For the show’s upcoming fifth season, Miller will play a mysterious man who ends up tangled in a storyline with Julia Stiles, who is beginning her first season on the skein. On the bigscreen, Miller has appeared in ‘Hackers,’ ‘Melinda and Melinda’ and ‘Trainspotting.’ Production on ‘Dexter’s’ fifth season is under way for a fall premiere,” Variety writes.

Speaking of the premiere, a while ago, lead star Michael C. Hall was talking to the Los Angeles Times about looking forward to going back to Dexter’s story, in order to be able to carry his character past the mess producers (and writers) put him in at the end of last season. He’s far from identifying with his serial killer / vigilante who doubles as a blood spatter analyst by day, Hall explained in the interview, but that did not mean he could not relate to him on many counts. Everyone has something to hide and skeletons in their closets, just like his Dexter, the actor said.

“Well, I’m certainly interested in going through the aftermath of the enormous mess that has been made of Dexter’s world at the end of the fourth season. And I think the relationship to the code, to the father, what happened at the end of the fourth season is sort of a revamped version of Dexter’s origin story. But in this case, he has some responsibility for what happened. I don’t know if that’s going to lead to his complete mental collapse – doubt it – or rehabilitation – I doubt that too. But how will he move forward? It’s the question that everybody who watches is probably pretty interested in,” Hall also shared.
