The Houston reverend has been targeted in an online prank that includes the creation of several dummy websites announcing his lack of faith and separation from all things Christian.
A video documenting the news of his resignation has also been posted online, and it features headlines appearing to have been featured on major media outlets such as CNN and Yahoo News.
"Pastor of mega church resigns, rejects Christ," or "Joel Osteen Rejects Christianity; Resigns from Church" are just two of those headlines.
According to the Houston Chronicle, pranksters have also set up a fake site for the preacher, www.joelostenministries.com, posting a statement on his resignation. His actual site, www.joelosteen.com mentions no announcement of the sort.
