Actress Jodie Foster and actress and photographer Alexandra Hedison were married over the Easter weekend, a rep for Foster confirms for E! News. The two have been dating for almost a year and have been trying from day one to keep the romance as much as possible out of the spotlight.

TMZ also obtained confirmation of the happy news but no other details than the fact that the ceremony took place last weekend.

“I can exclusively reveal that the Oscar winner and her photographer girlfriend of almost a year got married this past weekend. A rep for Foster confirms the happy news,” E! News says.

Jodie and Alexandra are believed to have started dating last summer, which is also when they began to be photographed together in public. By September, the usual suspects (i.e. unnamed tipsters) were telling the tabs that they were madly in love and determined to take the next big step.

It took them another few months for this to happen, but they finally did it.

Before dating Jodie, Alexandra famously dated comedienne Ellen DeGeneres for about 3 years, splitting in 2004. After the breakup, Ellen started dating and later married Portia de Rossi.

Jodie was in a long-term relationship with Cydney Bernard, who is also co-parent to her two children. The actress never officially confirmed the romance or, for that matter, came out as gay but word has it that she and Cydney were together for roughly 20 years.

It is believed that things turned sour when Jodie was either caught or admitted to having an affair with Cindy Mort. The affair didn’t last long, as she was seen next with Alexandra, her current wife.

As noted above, Jodie never really came out publicly or, at the very least, she never came out the way many celebrities have done in recent years, with a big magazine cover and the headlines in CAPS “I’m gay,” together with an exhaustive interview touching on topics like the moment they realized they weren’t straight, coming out to family and friends, being gay in an industry and a society that is still not as inclusive as they’d like.

What Jodie did instead was indirectly confirm suspicions during her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes 2013, where she was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille award. “I’m just going to put it out there, loud and proud, right? I am… single. I’m kidding. I came out a long, long time ago, in the Stone Age,” she said.
