So far, the only certain casts in the “Batman vs. Superman” film are Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck who will be playing the main characters. This leaves the question of who gets to play the bad guy. Warner Bros. apparently have some people lined up on their list, and among them is Joaquin Phoenix.

The actor has recently gained praise for his role in “Her,” another movie made by the Warner Bros. studios. And now it seems that studio execs are eyeing him for a possible role in their superhero blockbuster as the evil mastermind Lex Luthor.

There is still a very big question mark under this casting decision for a number of reasons. One is the fact that the casting process is still in its early stages and another is the fact that Joaquin has made a point out of staying away from big budget productions in the past years.

Previous talks had the role of Lex Luthor indirectly linked with Jason Momoa and Callan Mulvey. While they might still appear in the movie, it's possible that they won't get the villain role. The yet unnamed “Batman vs Superman” project is set for release in July 2015.
