Gothic 3 buys Painkiller

German-based publisher JoWooD, the one responsible for Gothic 3, The Guild 2 and SpellForce 2, has decided to increase its publishing power and plans to buy Canadian-based publisher DreamCatcher.

As far as I can see, JoWooD wants to become more influential on the North-American market and this can be achieved if their DreamCatcher purchase will go through. Presumably, the two developers' strategies align perfectly, and maybe PC gamers will benefit from this.

If the deal goes through, DreamCatcher will become a JoWooD wholly owned subsidiary. DreamCatcher is said to be the number 1 adventures games publisher in North America and is responsible for some big titles like Painkiller, Agatha Christie, The Crystal and Cold War.

This will not be a hostile takeover as DreamCatcher seems excited about "joining forces" with JoWooD as they are planning to build a global publishing mammoth. According to DreamCatcher representatives, they will try to help JoWooD titles to grow on the North American market, as they already have a 10 year experience in the field.
