Social networking has become an integral part of the web these days, it may even ‘become’ the web if Facebook has its way. But it hasn’t made much inroad in the enterprise market, unless you count people spending their time on FarmVille or Twitter rather than working. Jive Software, a company that focuses on enterprise software, aims to change that with a couple of big announcements.

Jive is releasing its own social networking software, Social Business Software (SBS), for enterprises and has licensed the full Twitter ‘firehose.’ Its new product will be available in the Google Apps Marketplace, but Jive is also launching its own Jive App Market.

"Social Business is the most important new enterprise software category in a decade," Tony Zingale, Jive CEO, said. "The innovation of social in the consumer space has had a ripple effect in the enterprise, forcing mass adoption of social business practices. Today's announcement positions Jive even more firmly as the leader in this multi-billion dollar market."

Jive What Matters, the social networking tool, is a fairly standard offering. It aggregates all sorts of activities from other business software but also from the outside web. It aims to be a central place to manage communications and relationships inside the company and with partners.

The company has also announced that it now has access to the full Twitter firehose, meaning all tweets created, in real time. Twitter has been licensing access to the full data stream and has sold the rights to all major search engines so far. Jive will offer a way to monitor Twitter for tweets regarding the company.

With the new releases, Jive is also entering the Google Apps Marketplace. Potential customers will have the option of a one-month trial of Jive’s SBS. At the same time, Jive is also launching its own Jive App Market, which will be very similar to the Google Apps Marketplace. It will offer third-party developers a place to present their products and potential customers a central place to find applications they may be interested in.
