The latest season of American Idol is moving on with the auditions stage, with the most recent stop being in San Diego. Despite some hindrances, auditions went well – and included quite a wonderful surprise when Jim Carrey's daughter showed up.

Jane Carrey is 24 and she wants a shot at making a name for herself, one that would not make people think she got it because she happens to have been born to someone rich and popular.

This is how the aspiring singer explains her decision to come to the auditions, as the video below will also confirm.

“It’s difficult growing up in a shadow trying to find your way. I feel like there is all this pressure to make it, but better. I am here to just make my place in the world,” Jane says.

The moment she steps on stage, though, Randy Jackson recognizes her, asking her whether her father knows what she's doing.

She laughs it off, making fellow judge Jennifer Lopez a bit confused: she knew Jane when she was little but she obviously doesn't recognize her now.

In the end, after the introduction video, Jane performs for the three judges and manages to get three “Yes”-es to go to Hollywood for the next AI stage.

“I like you I like the voice I like the potential,” Randy tells her. The other two judges, Jennifer and Steven Tyler agree: Jane shows a lot of promise even though she still has a lot of learning to do.

After the audition, Jane called her dad to tell him the happy news and, as expected, he was beside himself with joy.

“She’s so wonderful, she’s amazing I can’t wait for the world to understand what she has. Way to go. Oh my god this is going to be an exciting year,” he tells host Ryan Seacrest during the brief phone conversation.
