“Kick-Ass 2” is one of the most anticipated movies of 2013 but one of its stars, Jim Carrey, who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes, is taking to Twitter to say he will no longer be supporting it.

The first film was a surprise hit even though it also caused serious waves because of the many scenes of intense violence it includes and the fact that its protagonist is a kid who could win top prize in a cussing contest.

Carrey only came on board for the sequel but it didn’t take long for him to regret it: he says the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School changed his mind about his involvement in the project.

Consequently, “now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence,” Carrey writes.

“My apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart,” he adds.

You’d be safe to bet Carrey won’t be doing any promotional work for the film, judging by this.
