Wedding bells are in the air for Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson and they’re closer than you might think. Despite repeated efforts on Jessica’s part to keep her wedding date and location a secret, the cat is now out of the bag.

She and Eric will be saying their “I Dos” in a very lavish ceremony in Santa Barbara, California on July 4, Us Weekly reports, citing sources close to the couple. Talk about a double celebration!

Admittedly, they had wanted to get married in Capri, Italy, which is one of the places they visited and fell in love with in the early stages of their romance, but they eventually realized how much of a hassle it would be to have all their family members and friends flown to Europe for the occasion.

They also thought all these people might not appreciate having to go all the way there for the wedding. So they settled for some place closer to home, choosing to spend the money they would have spent on transportation and accommodation on making their big day truly something spectacular.

Simpson hinted that much on her most recent red carpet appearance, at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where she was accompanied by Eric: the wedding will definitely be a huge affair.

“We are very close to sending out our invites. I've been very picky on how I want everything to look and feel. Eric's family alone is almost 90 people, so it'll definitely be a big event,” she said, as cited by the aforementioned e-zine.

Another detail that has emerged online concerns Jessica’s wedding dress which, apparently, won’t be of the traditional kind because it won’t be white. “Jessica is having something unique made. It will be very different from the Vera Wang she wore to wed Nick Lachey [in 2002],” says one spy.

Now that she has the body for any kind of dress, Jessica seems determined to really have a blast with it.

The star and Eric became engaged in November 2010, just 5 months after they began dating. They weren’t exactly in a rush to get married at first but, as they started planning the ceremony, they had to put everything on hold because she became pregnant.

Shortly after daughter Maxwell’s birth, Jessica became pregnant again, this time with a boy they named Ace. She always maintained she didn’t want to be a pregnant bride and explained she would do her best to shed all the extra weight before the big day.

She’s definitely achieved her weight goal now, so this report about tying the knot on July 4 actually makes sense.
