14 DAY TRIAL // Over the past months, Jessica Simpson has been the constant target of media attacks, for both her weight and her, some say, questionable music career. While she has been keeping a low profile as of late, as compared to the past years, Jessica is not the type of woman to let negativity bring her down, as her latest interview with Vanity Fair magazine clearly reveals.
Jessica, now reportedly on a break from her country music career, is set to show the world that, first off, she is not as fat as reports would have her to be, and, secondly, that she will never bother paying attention to what nay-sayers babble. The first part is brilliantly taken care of with a wonderful shot of Jessica, in a figure-hugging white dress, on the cover of the magazine, accompanied by the “You call this fat?” caption right above her shoulder. The blonde singer and actress takes care of the second part in the VF interview.
When asked whether she ever lets media criticism get her down, Simpson is blunt: she does read what magazines say about her and she knows about all the stories circulating out there. Nevertheless, she rarely lets these reports bother her, she admits. “When it comes to media criticism, that’s just something I have had to train myself – literally train myself – to ignore… I mean, the way people make it sound, I should have never been singing in the first place… It comes with what I do, and I know that every day the media’s going to challenge me, is going to want to bring me down.” Jessica says.
Her secret, she reveals, is that she knows that, as long as she stays true to herself, people can say whatever they want and she won’t be bothered. So far, this motto seems to have worked wonders for her, especially with the recent “fat-gate,” when almost the entire media turned on her for gaining a couple of pounds. “I feel like I’m at such a place that I own myself, and it’s authentic. I own that authentic part of myself, and none of those words are harsh enough to make me believe them…. I can’t imagine saying some of the things people have said about me about anybody else.” Jessica explains.
