Jessica Simpson gave birth to her first child, daughter Maxwell, at the beginning of the month but, until now, she kept close to home, refusing to show a single photo of her bundle of joy to the world. She's now showing off Maxwell on the cover of People.

You can see a photo of this week's cover of the mag attached to this article.

The cover also promises a “family album,” which could mean the print issue will include many other shots of the new mommy, fiancé (and proud daddy) Eric Johnson, and Maxwell.

In the preview issue released online, Jessica reveals she had a C-section and admits that it was a difficult intervention from which she's still recovering.

She's also nursing, which has become her full-time job.

“It’s the worst if I have to pump and give Eric a bottle to give her. I miss holding her and having that closeness,” Jessica says.

She also explains that Maxwell's arrival has changed her life in ways she couldn't have even imagined possible.

“[My] life has completely changed. From how I sleep to what I think about, Maxwell has definitely taken over everything!” the star gushes.

Obviously, Eric feels the same.

“We stare at her all the time. We can’t get enough!” Jessica explains.

Featured on the cover asleep in her mother's arms but rocking a cute frock and girlie headband, Maxwell has “inherited her mom’s eyes and her dad’s calm demeanor,” People writes, promising that the print issue will take fans inside her nursery for a better look.

This is Jessica and Eric's first child. They had announced their engagement before breaking the baby news, which sparked some talk about how they put the wedding on hold until the child was born.

Jessica too joked at one point that she wouldn't get married pregnant because she'd gotten so big she could hardly fit into the dress she'd chosen for her big day.
