14 DAY TRIAL // It pays to be the darling of the fashion industry, sitting atop of a $1 billion fashion empire. On her 31st birthday, Jessica Simpson got the perfect present from her fiancé Eric Johnson: an orange Birkin bag.
Simpson’s birthday was over the weekend but, just hours into the special day, she had already received well wishes and messages from just about everybody, as she wrote on her Twitter page.
“only 1 p.m. and I think I have pretty much heard from everyone in my life! That is a birthday record! Huge smile on my face!” she wrote on Sunday.
The best was yet to come, though, as Simpson herself revealed just a short while later. Eric surprised her with a much-coveted Birkin.
“Eric made my birthday! I have never been more surprised in my life! Jackie O who? ;)” she tweeted, clearly excited about the present.
She even posted a photo of herself kissing the orange bag.
It’s not the retail value of $15,000 that makes the Birkin this desirable, but rather the fact that only a limited number of these bags are made each year.
As we also noted on a previous occasion, this translates into long waiting lists being drawn up for just one singe items, with the regular Jane being forced, sometimes, to wait as much as 2 years to get her hands on one.
Clearly, that’s not the case of Jessica, whose fiancé also seems perfectly able to pull some strings and get the Birkin just in time for her birthday.
Of course, if one were to compare presents, on Christmas day in 2008, the one Victoria found under her tree far exceeded Simpson’s, as we also informed you at the time.
David paid no less than £80,000 (approximately $127,000) for one of the three existing white, diamond-studded Birkin bags.
It came with a 3-carat diamond on the lock and several, smaller ones on the frame, and Victoria was photographed with it just once – and then too, she was surrounded by bodyguards.
