Jessica Simpson gets emotional during her wedding to Eric Johnson, flubs her wedding vows

Singer Jessica Simpson did something exciting over the Independence Day Weekend. No, it wasn't an extravagant barbecue, it was a wedding. The singer and entrepreneur decided that this was the best time of the year to get hitched. Speaking of hitches, the ceremony turned out to have a couple of snags …

E! Online reports that the wedding ceremony was officiated by Jessica's father, Joe Simpson, who apparently wanted to play a bigger role in the event, not just walk down the altar as he gave his daughter away.

The wedding took place at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California, and things went a little pear-shaped as soon as Jessica and her groom, Eric Johnson, got to the part where they were supposed to say their wedding vows.

Normally, this is the time in the ceremony when the new couple gets to improvise and express the love for one another with a touching speech that reflects their feelings. However, first Eric managed to flub his vow and then, seconds later, it was Jessica's turn to make the same mistake.

Reports from eyewitnesses indicate that instead of saying her husband's name in the vow, Jessica somehow said her own. However, she recovered quickly and started all over again, laughing the entire incident off.

The audience at the event was made up of over 250 people, including several celebrities the likes of Jessica Alba, Donald Faison, Topher Grace, Evan Ross, Ashlee Simpson, and Cash Warren. Jessica and Ashley Simpson's children were ring bearers and flower girls, much to everyone's delight.

The official statement released after the wedding was officiated read, “We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment. To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”

Apart from the funny story about the wedding vows, the photos from the ceremony were also released to the press, showing the full scale of the event. Jessica showed off her slim figure in a lovely custom-made Carolina Herrera gown that turned more than a few heads.

The wedding comes at the end of an 80-month-long engagement, and it could be said that it was about time. Guests were impressed with the entire proceedings, as well as with the gift bags given at the exit. The happy couple concluded, “We feel complete now,” as friends and family wished them the best in their married life.
