14 DAY TRIAL // Not long ago, rumors were ripe that Jessica Simpson was hoping for an engagement ring for her last birthday before the big and often-dreaded 30. Instead, the star was dumped by longtime boyfriend Tony Romo, who let her know that he wanted out of the relationship right the night before a Barbie and Ken-themed party for her birthday, People magazine can confirm.
Sources close to the couple are telling the US tabloid media that, while the split was “a long time coming,” it still came as a shock for Jessica, who often referred to Tony as “the love of my life,” and of whom she reportedly expected a proposal to come very soon. However, chances are still high that they get back together since they are known as a very “volatile” couple, where fights, ultimatums and breakups in the spur of the moment do occur.
For the moment, though, things seem clear, as Romo has already been seen partying “with the boys” precisely on Jessica’s birthday, while she spent the time with her family. “She is heartbroken. She loves Tony. But it’s been difficult lately. He’s busy with his career and she’s getting ready to shoot her show (‘The Price Of Beauty’). They decided to part ways. […] He had quite a few girls stop by his dance floor table. Romo was sipping Grey Goose and having a fun time with the boys.” an unnamed source says for People.
When contacted for confirmation, a spokesperson for Jessica Simpson was not immediately available for comment. However, even if this report checks out, the singer is handling it bravely and keeping it away from fans. Presumably because she’s still trying to deal with the reality that she’s no longer with Romo, whom she began dating in November 2007, Simpson completely avoided the topic of the rumored split in her most recent messages on Twitter.
“Barbie party didn’t happen, but I turned 29 and feel like I am on top of the world yelling I LOVE GETTING OLDER!” the star wrote. Later, she wrote again, saying, “Everyone needs to know that hope floats... grab the strings and pull it back to you... Falling asleep with my mom and the dogs. Please, Lord, give all of my beautiful fans, friends, enemies, and family rest. Bring all of us peace.”
