As the number of alleged mistresses Tiger Woods has been keeping while married to Elin Nordegren has gone up to 14, talk is starting to make the rounds that the best way to get one’s name in the press is to claim an affair with the golfer. One woman that wants to be associated in no way with Woods is singer Jessica Simpson, who is taking to Twitter and her attorneys to fight tabloid reports to the contrary, E! Online says.

The other day, Star magazine came out with the claim that, when they met earlier this year at golf tournament where Simpson sang the national anthem, the two also exchanged telephone numbers, which means they more than likely became romantically involved later on. This is a false report, Jessica says on her Twitter and, to prove it, she’s already instructed her attorneys to press Star for a retraction.

“Can’t believe that I’m on the cover of star magazine with Tiger Woods, what a JOKE! ‘The Shocking Inside Story’ is (insert drumroll) A LIE!” Jessica sounded off on her Twitter page. Her rep is equally convincing when he says that the two stars only met that time for a very short while, posed for a picture together and then nothing else happened. Saying otherwise by using a source whose words can’t even verified in any way is a mistake that Star magazine will probably have to make up for.

“Literally the only thing that’s true in the story is the fact that they met. It was a quick meeting, and they posed for a photo together – that was it. Jessica’s lawyer is sending them a letter this afternoon,” the rep says for E!, calling the entire story “ridiculous.” As of now, the US tabloid has not yet responded in any way to Simpson’s comment on Twitter but, when it does, we’ll probably find out from Jessica herself.

As also noted above, with each day, more and more women step forward to claim affairs with the number one golfer in what has officially become the biggest celebrity scandal of the year. There is a downside to this kind of exposure, though, as, just recently, Rachel Uchitel, Woods’ “number one mistress,” went into hiding after receiving death threats from upset fans who saw her as a homewrecker.
