14 DAY TRIAL // In September this year, actor Jeremy Renner told the world that he and his model girlfriend Sonni Pacheco had tied the knot in secret, some time after the birth of their daughter, Ava Berlin. Ten months into the marriage, Pacheco has filed for divorce, citing the usual irreconcilable differences.
However, the split is anything but usual, based on the claims the 23-year-old model makes in court documents obtained by TMZ: not only is she asking for the prenup to be made void on the grounds of fraud but she’s also implying that Renner did the impossible to keep her from leaving, including by stealing her personal documents.
Indeed, this has the makings of a very ugly split.
Pacheco wants to take Renner to the cleaners
Jeremy Renner is pretty famous, thanks to his solid performances in the Oscar-winning “Hurt Locker,” “Mission Impossible,” “The Bourne Legacy,” “The Town” and Marvel’s “The Avengers.” He lives in Los Angeles, and contrary to what some other stars are saying, he’s proof that you can live your life away from the spotlight, if you want to.
This means that, for the most of the time, he can fly under the radar and have his private life out of the tabloids. It mostly comes up when he’s promoting a new film, which was the case in September, when he broke the news of the secret marriage.
Now that Pacheco wants out, more details are bound to spill in the press, especially since it seems like she’s bent on taking him to the cleaners. The marriage was a “fraud,” she says in court documents, so the prenup she signed before saying “I do” should have no legal standing. She’s trying to argue that she was misled about the marriage when she signed it.
He’s been trying to keep her from leaving
However, that’s not the most shocking claim in the divorce filing: Pacheco is also asking for her “stolen” passport, birth certificate and Social Security card back. Since there’s only one person she could be referring to, the implication is that Renner took these documents from her to prevent her from leaving.
Pacheco is also asking for full custody of her daughter with the actor, spousal support, a car, and to have all expenses of moving out covered.
Since she’s also asking for the prenup to be made void, it’s safe to assume that she also wants half of Renner’s money: his estimated net worth is of $35 million (€28.7 million), so even if she got a fraction of that, she’d still be settled for years.
Renner and Pacheco met on the set of “Mission Impossible,” where she worked as a stand-in. They moved in together in Los Angeles shortly afterwards, had a child and got married. Rumor online would have you believe that Renner is secretly gay and she is just his “beard” – so expect this rumor to pick up even more traction now that she’s claiming the marriage was a “fraud.”
