As we also reported the other day, Jeremy Renner is featured in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, with a spread and interview meant to promote his upcoming “The Bourne Legacy,” which he describes as a “huge responsibility.”

Just coming off of “The Avengers,” Renner's future is anything but bleak. He's one of the most talented and in demand stars of today and, by all chances, he'll be tied down to the “Avengers” and “Bourne” franchises for at least another while.

Speaking of “Bourne,” in which Renner takes over from Matt Damon, who played the titular character in the previous 3 installments, he describes it as a “huge responsibility” but, at the same time, one that he did not hesitate one second before taking.

In fact, he tells Empire, he spent less time considering the offer of playing Aaron Cross in “The Bourne Legacy” than he did answering questions for Empire.

If there's one reason why he might have hesitated in doing the part, that was because he stopped to think how it would affect his life.

“That’s a huge responsibility. I had to think about what that would mean for my family, my friends, my personal life. It shifts all those relationships in different ways,” Renner says.

“We can’t just go have a cup of coffee somewhere. So it affects what they’re doing and I had to consider that,” he adds.

He's not complaining, though, far from it. If anything, Renner would say he's the “luckiest man alive” because he doesn't have to think and worry about tomorrow, or what he'd do for a job.

Back on the “Bourne” topic, Jeremy would want fans of the previous Matt Damon films to know that this one isn't a shameless ripoff or sequel.

“The Bourne Legacy” can stand on its own, separate from the franchise, but it's best understood as a continuation for it.

“He’s coming from a completely different background to Jason. He knows exactly who he is; he signed up to this … He wants to be part of a team. I can tell you he was in the military then he joined this program,” Renner says of Cross.

“He’s a person who wants to be part of something. He had nothing going on as a civilian so he became part of this military organization. He just wants to belong and have a sense of purpose. But then it’s taken away,” the actor adds.
