Actor says he's very much against big budget movie franchises

Jeremy Renner may have gotten his start later in his career but he's definitely one of the hottest actors on the map right now. In a new interview with Details magazine, Renner muses on big budget movie franchises and explains why he'd rather do indie films.

Renner became a household name after starring in the Oscar-winning “The Hurt Locker.” Right now, he's working on several major releases, having landed parts in “The Avengers,” “Mission: Impossible” and the new “Bourne” franchise.

However, getting the leading role in a huge franchise was never Renner's dream. In fact, even today, he chooses to think about each film he does as a separate project, not part of a whole, he tells the magazine.

Personally, he couldn't have done a role as Shia LaBeouf did in Michael Bay's “Transformers” juggernaut.

“Other people can think ahead all they want,” Renner says of already being included in plans for two huge franchises as the leading man, “M:I” and “Bourne.”

“I just focus on the task at hand and try to move on,” he says, adding that he'd rather do smaller films, with more challenging characters, even if franchises pay considerably better.

“I’m blessed to have cool roles in these big movies. Because nothing against Transformers, but thank God I don’t have to do a monologue to a robot. I don’t know how Shia, God bless him, does that,” Renner says.

However, that's not to say he's ungrateful. On the contrary, Renner loves his job and makes sure he does whatever he can to keep it because he knows he's one of the chosen ones.

Perhaps because he knows the illusion may vanish in the morning and his acting career go down the drain, Jeremy still sticks to his pre-fame job: he and his brother run a house renovating business.

“This is the vacation. Work is trying to get a damned job. I skip to set every day,” he says, comparing acting to a holiday.
