Jennifer Love Hewitt has long made the transition from teen hottie to established actress. Sadly, as she did so, her image took a serious hit, as the media constantly focused on her looks rather than on her accomplishments. Not a strange to yo-yo-ing weight, the “Ghost Whisperer” star is speaking out about her road to a slimmer self and what it takes to make her feel good about herself, in a new interview with Shape magazine.

Featured on the cover of the mag in a two-piece, white swimsuit that proves that she has, indeed, toned up her body and started eating healthier, the actress says she has come to learn acceptance is the single most important thing to remember when it comes to being happy about her looks. We’re all made to look different from one another, Hewitt believes, and this is why it’s important to acknowledge this difference and learn to love what we’ve been given, instead of trying to be something else.

However, it’s also important to eat healthily and work out, the star stresses. Since she started dating her “Ghost Whisperer” co-star, Jamie Kennedy, she completely overhauled her lifestyle to ensure she lost some weight and avoided health problems. For starters, she admits, she never buys food to last her more than two days, so that she always has fresh produce in the fridge. She doesn’t buy treats that might tempt her at night, either because having to go out to buy something sweet is too much of an inconvenience, no matter how big her craving might be at the moment.

As of late, Hewitt has placed a lot of emphasis on not giving in to peer pressure and eating healthily. “Hollywood used to revolve around women with curves, like Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe. But now it’s so different. Not that long ago, I went to this celebrity luncheon, and I was the only person in the room eating. The other girls looked at me like I hadn’t gotten the memo, but I was hungry! All of these girls were afraid that if someone saw them eating, it would be a disaster. It makes no sense at all.” the actress reveals for Shape.

Hewitt also works out a lot and makes a habit of running with her boyfriend every time they visit a place they hadn’t visited before. However, it’s positive thinking that’s helped her the most. “I fall asleep feeling beautiful. Then, in the morning, before I leave the house, I say five things I love about myself, like ‘You have really pretty eyes.’ That way I can go out into the world with that little bit of extra confidence. It’s a feel-good protein shake in my back pocket in case someone messes with me that day.” Jennifer explains.

So, with a combination of eating healthily, working out and little tricks, Jennifer Love Hewitt has managed to get back her former figure. At the same time, she’s also learned to be happy and not pay too much attention to what they say in the media about her, she vouches. In the end, happiness is all that matters, she says.
