Celebrities often receive all kinds of freebies to attend one event or another. It’s not endorsing per se, it’s just a company’s way of showing appreciation towards a star who graces a venue with his/her presence, it has often been said. Believing this was also Jennifer Lopez, who walked away with $50,000 worth of diamonds belonging to Swiss jeweler Robert Mouawad, the New York Post informs.

As is customary in showbiz, stars frequently borrow jewels to make public appearances. In order to attend the launch of the latest clothing line signed Andrea Lieberman at Barney’s New York in Beverly Hills, Jennifer Lopez’s team contacted renowned jeweler Mouawad. However, unlike other celebrities, the singer did not return the diamonds estimated at $50,000 the next morning, but kept them for herself without even speaking to Mouawad, sources tell the Post.

“We received a call from [her manager] Benny Medina, informing us that Jennifer was going to keep the jewelry. As far as Mr. Mouawad is concerned, Jennifer can have whatever she wants, but a premature demand seemed presumptuous.” an inside source, close to Mouawad, reveals for the media. What this means, in other words, is that the jeweler would have gladly given the diamonds to Jennifer had she specifically asked for them – which, again, is not a rare occurrence in Hollywood.

At the same time, Lopez’s management is quick to deny everything that is being said right now about the singer’s behavior regarding the “incident.” It wasn’t so much that she “demanded” the diamonds, it is being pointed out, but that she kept them in the understanding that they were rightfully hers. Jennifer Lopez was somehow “deceived” into believing that the diamonds were her “compensation” for attending the event, it is further being added in the media.

“There was no demand whatsoever. There was an offer. It was very clear. She was the only celebrity whose name was on the invite. She would have done it for nothing. But this was how it was presented. It was quite a generous offer.” Medina is telling PageSix.
