14 DAY TRIAL // Jennifer Lawrence is one of those actors that are literally blessed to be famous and appreciated from the start of their career. She has been loved by her fans and the media and in everyone's eyes she could do no wrong. Except she did and it is as bad.
After starring in box office hit after box office hit and being regarded as a generally goofy yet big-hearted girl with a good head screwed on tight on her shoulders (her legs, however, were a different issue since she can't seem to manage to stay upright during award shows), Jennifer managed to slip up for the first time at the Cannes Film Festival.
While she was attending the Vanity Fair and Armani party at the Cannes Film Festival, Jennifer Lawence thought it would be funny to crack a joke about Alfonso Cuaron, the director of “Gravity,” except she took things too far and made it about rape.
Now, the entire world is fussing over her joke, since rape isn't usually the thing you joke about, and Jennifer has just learned that the hard way. Apparently, she screamed and then told Alfonso, “I broke out my rape scream for you.”
While Jennifer hasn't issued an official apology just yet, there have been several media outlets that took to tar-and-feathering the actress. Ironically, it was some of the same celebrity blogs that worshiped the very ground she walked on that turned their backs on her and berated her mercilessly.
Some pointed out that the leak was actually an inside joke, one that was never meant to be heard in public, but since someone overheard the conversation and then decided to spill the beans, Lawrence is now left to a stained reputation.
Since we don't know the exact conditions under which this event took place, we can't form an opinion, but it should be evident to anyone that rape will never be a laughing matter, nor will it provide a suitable medium for a joke.
One thing is for sure: Jennifer caused quite a dent in her spotless public image as quite a few fans had taken to Twitter to express their distaste for her off hand joke. Many felt that Jennifer revealed a bit too much of her personality with this slip of the tongue.
Also, it's safe to assume that this little mishap is going to stick with her for some time now and it's going to take an extra bit of charm from her to win back some of her fans.
