Jennifer Hudson gave birth to her first child, a baby named David, in August this year, after a very quiet pregnancy that was not confirmed until the child was already delivered into the world. The Oscar-winning singer is now telling People magazine that motherhood has changed her in ways she never even imagined possible before, while also revealing some of the plans she and fiancé David Otunga have for their son.

Speaking of the secrecy around her pregnancy, Hudson says for the magazine that, while for a very long time only she and David knew, it was not because they specifically planned it that way. At first, they didn’t want to go public because they wanted to make sure everything was alright beforehand. Then, as the weeks went by, it was just harder and harder to make a statement. So, they just waited until the pregnancy could confirm itself, Jennifer jokes.

“He has a lot of personality, like David.” the singer says of her son. “He’s always been a good sleeper. His favorite time to smile now is diaper changes. Or when he spits up on you – he just cracks up like he thinks it’s the funniest thing. And his bottle is his pacifier. With a pacifier, it’s like he knows, ‘Ain’t nothing come out of here. No, I don’t want that. Where’s the real deal?’ His best friend is that bottle; that’s all he wants.” she further explains of David’s little routines throughout the day.

Another thing that David likes is for his mother to sing to him, Jennifer adds. Whenever he’s crying or he can’t sleep, she just sings a song and he instantly stops or closes his eyes, depending on the case. In her son, delivered via C-section, Jennifer Hudson has found new purpose in life, as she puts it herself. After the tragic loss of three family members, including her mother, during a shoot-out, Jennifer is now finally able to say that she has found the one thing to which she can dedicate all her time and attention: her son David.

When asked whether she would want her child to pursue a career in the spotlight just like she has, Jennifer is not burning all the bridges yet. “We’ll definitely encourage education. His father is an education fanatic so we definitely want him to get an education and go to school. My mom always said, ‘Whatever you want to do, I’ll support you as long as you’re happy.’ So I will do the same.” she concludes by saying for the mag. The full interview with Jennifer Hudson for People magazine is out on newsstands on October 15.
