Since becoming a spokesperson for Weight Watchers and getting started on the program, Oscar-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson has completely transformed herself into a slimmer, healthier version of herself. She’s now cover girl for the April 2011 issue of Essence.

Hudson, who is now promoting her latest film “Winnie,” in which she plays Winnie Mandela, tells the magazine she never imagined her weight loss would be such a big deal.

Yet it is, and she’s most proud of helping other women shed the extra weight as well by being a role model, an inspiration for them.

“I didn’t realize that so many people were watching me or that so many people were interested. Now people come up to me saying, ‘You’ve inspired me,’ and I’m like, Wow,” the star says.

So far, she’s lost 80 pounds on the program, as she revealed during a recent interview with Oprah, as we also informed you at the time.

However, she has no plans to take this any further, saying her goal had been from the beginning to lose weight to be healthier but, at the same time, not lose her curves.

That accomplished, Jennifer wants to focus now on being the best mom to her son – inspired by her own mother’s example.

“My wish is to be at least half as good as my mother was, as patient and as loving as she was, and to just give that to my son,” the actress tells the magazine.

In the same interview, Jennifer talks a bit about “Winnie,” saying the film was actually supposed to start shooting long before it did, but production on it was stalled while she dealt with the drama that tore her family apart, the much-mediated shootings.

Her mother, her brother and her nephew were shot and killed by her brother-in-law, and Jennifer took some time off from pursuing her career, while she dealt with the drama.
