14 DAY TRIAL // Jennifer Aniston has long said that she didn’t want to remain stuck in a little box, where she’d only do romantic comedies or, at worst, only be remembered for her part on “Friends.” She also wants to direct and do some side projects as well – and her inspiration for going forward, it would seem, is Barbra Streisand, as Aniston reveals in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
The interview comes accompanied by a stunning photospread in which Aniston, in full makeup and wig, recreates some of Babs’ most famous poses. The resemblance is striking and uncanny too, especially if one also considers the parallelisms Aniston draws in the interview. Both she and Streisand have been forced into the spotlight where there’s constant pressure put on them – the only difference is, Jen says, that Barbra had it harder and also accomplished more.
“We are people who have been put in the spotlight, for better or for worse, and you just keep riding, and you keep overcoming, and you just stay true to what you love to do. People laugh at me. Sometimes I know why, and sometimes I don’t. But I can pretty much find humor in anything. That is a necessary part of life. I don’t want to say laughter is healing, because it sounds corny, but it’s a release,” Aniston says. What she learned from Barbra is that “You don’t have to stop at one thing. You can do it all if you want to.”
“Barbra inspires me because there isn’t anything she hasn’t done that she wanted to do, especially as a female in the time when her generation was prime. She’s a true renaissance woman... I had a long conversation with Barbra about directing because I directed a short a couple years ago, and if I don’t do it again soon, I’m going to burst out of my skin. And we also love interior design,” Jennifer further says, driving the point home.
There is one thing, though, that Jennifer could only dream of and that Barbra has to spare: an extraordinary singing voice. Should she ever get to pick one wish to have turned into reality, Aniston would choose the chance to have Barbra’s voice – not for a single day, but just for as long as she takes a shower, she says.
