Red Octane and Activision have announced that DJ Jazzy Jeff will be a playable character in DJ Hero, the upcoming music game developed for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the PS2 and the Nintendo Wii.

The developer is saying that Jeffrey A. Townes, aka Jazzy Jeff, will be joining other well-known DJs, like DJ Shadow, DJ AM, DJ Z-Trip and the legendary Grandmaster Flash, in the line up of the game.

There will be two exclusive tracks that Jazzy Jeff is bringing to DJ Hero: “Shout”" from Tears for Fears mixed with “Eric B. Is President” from Eric B. & Rakim and a mash up between LL Cool J's “Rock the Bells” and “Bittersweet Symphony” as performed by The Aranbee Pop Symphony Orchestra. Overall, the game will be offering around 100 tracks and 80 mixes.

DJ Jazzy Jeff proved his interest in DJ Hero by saying that “I am very, very excited DJ culture is finally getting its due. To have a song in DJ Hero is a dream come true; to be a character someone can pick up the controller and select you and play is probably the biggest thing to happen to me in my career. Music is so much a part of everyone's life, DJ Hero is going to appeal to almost everybody.” The musician has not disclosed whether his partner from the '90's, Will Smith as The Fresh Prince, would be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming music game.

DJ Hero is just one part of the musical offensive that Activision is planning to unleash this fall. Guitar Hero 5 is set to push the technology forward and allowing for more music creation options, Van Halen will be getting a standalone title, while Band Hero will be bringing the experience to the Nintendo DS. Harmonix will answer the challenge by putting out The Beatles: Rock Band this autumn.
